Back from HK!

May 22, 2007

So I am finally home again =) HK was nice, the people were interesting as well. Everyone had some broken 1/2 english but was very animated to make up for decificencies in language. Meeting the various personals of the HKPF gave me a sense of happiness to know that they are capable people.

It hits me and I realize I have been traveling most of my year so far and have spent very little actual time at home!

2007 Janurary – 1.5 weeks in Ottawa, Canada
2007 Feburary – 2 weeks in Ottawa, Canada
2007 March – 4 weeks in Ottawa, Canada
2007 April – 2 Weeks in Ottawa, Canada
2007 May – 1.5 weeks in HK, China & Shenzhen, China

I am scheduled for travel again in June to HK, China.

It’s times like these that I really wish I had a girlfriend to take with me to these places. It would be like a free vacation for her while I work. We just met up again at the Hotel at night and maybe share in some of the sights during the evening.

This time during my travels I tried a lot of fruits! Various type of fruits from Shenzhen China that was bought there from various parts of China. Dragon Fruit, Lotus Mist, Red Haired Pearls, Mountian Banboo, and some more! All of them were very very good, and also makes much more sense in their chinese names!

The next time I return to China I hope to get a suit made. I’m told it takes 1 day to create it from the day you walk in to get measured. Some really cheap labor there.

I also finally actually got a body massage there (a real one, no not a happy ending type). It was nice, also only cost my 8 bucks for 1.5 hours of service! I kind of wish i lived there, I would spend 8 bucks a day! Think about it!!! In LA, a stupid boba drink is like 5 bucks already… So i can drink boba…. or get a 1hour massage. Big difference there. =P

I’ve learned a lot in these part 3 months…

Memories of Venezuela from 2005Nov-Dec

February 9, 2007

LAX… Hurray! delayed plan… “The flight is doing to be delayed to some unknown duration as we are experienceing an electrical issues” then later on “the unknown electrical issues seems to have disappeared so it is resolved, please prepare to begin boarding” …… D: What?!… disappeared? huh?…. wait… you mean we don’t need to wait anymore! Yay! Last one on the plane’s a rotten egg!

Anyone have a sudden urge to play simcity?

Delayed flight so we missed out connecting flight. This is a shot of the lobby at the hotel we were allocated for the lay over.

Houston, Texus… very … very… sticky feeling. High humidity and also 12 year olds walking alone in the middle of the night… I think that state death penality really makes an affect on the culture here. So they either have no crime or the 12 year old is working the corner…

Some of the other corner workers… j/k XD okay I’ll stop with the bad jokes. Pretty nice place though. This is all FREE. Open night, i think the city pays for the water fountians and also the clean atmosphere. It was very nice.

At 40+ thousand kilometers in mid-air over the gulf of mexico, I take a brillant snapshot of the sun setting above the clouds.

The 20th floor snap shot of an cylinder structured Embassy Suites lobby below. Was nice rekindling my fear of heights. All I could think about was accidentally dropping my camera. That definitly would be bad…

Promptly decided to reach the ground floor for stability and piece of mind.

*Drool….* under the hood of two racks in this 200+ server setup… *drool..* raw fucking power man… just raw….. what a rush.

The chinese are taking over Venezuela! Watch out! Here is my co-worker Carl. Cool guy, slow talking, fast thinking, easy going, dude that can beat you up if you touch his servers.

Me, enjoying my multiple telnet connections to those 200+ servers. It’s like having the raw power at the tip of your finger tips, but without the cold vacuumed server climate.

How the world looked like after the long hours under the chinese whip.

Our rations >.>;;;;

Omg! Our head software architect has been taken hostage! Just kidding…The armed venezuela national army troops stationed to protect us during the election event. Very diligent =)

Our work! Our pride! And all the cheaters! Actually not that many, just some were. They get a slap on the wrist, a fine, and they were then free to go.

Another great picture I took! Man I could do this for a living!

VPN is UP!

February 9, 2007

Anyhow… It’s up! it’s up!

Now I can goto Canada and still work on on my network at home. =)

2006-2007 Transition (vacation)

January 3, 2007

A lot of stuff is happening to me at the moment in my life. I do believe I am changing (again).

Vacation was fun! One of the best I’ve had yet! I really learned a lot more about myself while I was on the trip and somewhat woke up again from my dumb slumber.

I did the following:
– Dyed my hair (Sun-in, old school style with a blow dryer)
– Enjoyed Food (Good Steak at Arroyo Chop House)
– Enjoyed Wine (Thanks Rudy)
– Enjoyed Friends (Thanks everyone)
– Ignored my BlackBerry (Muahaha)
– Downloaded Movies (Something I wanted to do for a long time now)
– Started watching Heroes (Also something I wanted to do!)
– Watched Movies: Accepted, Cars, Casino Royale, Click, Crank, Dead or Alive, Flushed Away, Happy Feet, Rocky Balboa, Tokyo Drift, Pink Panther, Underworld 2. (Really enriches my life, never realized how “out of it” I was)
– Snowboarding in Mammoth (3 straight days, so soar!)
– Learned how to Sew (Did not think it would be this difficult!)
– Learned a few drinking games (These were fun ^__^)
– Played Cranium (Was an interesting game, I like the blue catagory for drawing)
– Snuck into CalTech’s Gym with a girl’s ID (They have a great gym!)
– Wrote the largest check I’ve ever written for $130,000 USD (Wow!)
– Accumulated the largest debt I’ve ever had for $670,000 USD! (Omg I’m in debt!)
– Bought a House ($536,000 USD, reason for the debt)

– Started to communicate a bit with old friends (Finally, I’m regaining my socialability)
– Finally got to use my new snowboard (and fucked it up!)
– Pushed my car to 120 mph (Regained my love of speeding, adrenaline yum!)
– Did a donut (with a car) on ice
– Drifted (with a car) on ice!
– Did a REAL donut at an intersection on the streets of Alhambra! (doh! my tires!)
– Did a fast 1760 degree (grounded) spin on a downhill run on Broadway at Mammoth Mountian before falling over on the slopes (dizzy, very dizzy)
– Bonded with my little brother (Snowboarding)
– Bonded with my father (Managing family assets)
– Bonded with my grandma (Sewing)
– Bonded with my mother (Sewing)
– Bonded with my dog (I ran around and he did too)

Phew! That’s only over the last 2 weeks!

It’s been a good year, 2006, although I now realize it really could have been better. Although, I am not too phased by it. Learning from your past and your mistakes, can only prepare you more for the future. I must say that there is nothing this year that was dire or extreme that would handycap me for the next year.

I will only heal and return stronger this year and truly regain myself as “me”.

Learned how to Sew

January 2, 2007

Today I finished watching Click, the movie with Adam Sanders. It was a very good movie and really I related to it a lot. Personally I think I’ve been working too hard and have really been “choosing” my work over my personal life and family. It was a very touching movie and I really started to tear a bit when it came to his father and also the last scene just in-front of the hospital. My initials thoughts right after the movie was that “I had to do something with my family, I love them.”

Then almost immedately I was invited to go workout with Leo at CalTech, I made a mental note for myself and decided I will do something with family right after I get back. I pulled up my workout pants from out of my drawers and then found it with a hole! Normally it wouldn’t be a big deal, but this hole was about the side a credit card right under my back right pocket. Definitly wasn’t looking forward to showing my boxers at CalTech.

It hit me. “Spend time with family” + “Grandma is living with us recently” + “I have a pant with a hole” + “I want to learn something to improve myself” + “I really like my old workout pants and I’m not ready to part with them yet” = “I’ll ask Mom and Grandma how to sew!” Was a good idea =)

I went to the gym at CalTech (using Leo’s sister’s ID), then went to dinner with my family and had a good dinner and wonderiful conversation.

I then prompty asked my Grandmother and Mother to teach me how to sew!

My grandma’s initial reaction was “huh? just go buy some new pants!” My mom, which had helped me sew my workout pants before, explained to my grandma how much I love old things and how I like these pants. I personally believe I’m just very confortable with things I’m familar with. These pants are like a safety blanket.

Lesson #1: Different types of Lines!

On the far right you’ll see a “straight line”: it’s something like just poking oneside and moving a bit and poking across to another side then poking another side again. You basically make a Zigzag shape in and out of the fabric and work your way through. there’s about 3 segments of this type below.

On the middle right, the next 6 segments are what’s called a “re-line” (Excuse my english translation of what my mom/grandma said in chinese LOL): A re-line is a poke through behind the current location of the string, then a poke about two times the distance of the backwards poke forward out of the fabric. This works like a slowly moving loop-to-loop, it’s much more firm and works better with tougher fabrics that need to hold together. Later I have a better visual example of exactly how to do this.

On the middle left is what’s called a “carpet line”: This is a half poke into the fabric near a corner or where the fabric folds. Then taking the string that has not been poked through, one wraps it counter clock-wise around the pin head behind the end of the fabric. After that you then pull the needle out and repeat. This is a very firm edge sewing line.

Different Stiches
Lesson #2: How to prepare a patch to be sewed
The next image is the hole I’m trying to patch-up. Steps are:
1.) Put the patch fabric over the hole
2.) keep it in place using other needles
3.) Draw a line (if you want) to make a good beginner’s target
4.) String your needle and start sewing

Lesson #3: How to String a needle and tie the end knot
1.) Put the string through the hole of the needle
2.) Pull the string back such that you have both ends of the string match up (image below)

3.) Make a loop and pitch the around you want to make the knot at, placing your thumb further back along the index finger.

4.) Slide across the intersection of the loop to have the string end curve into the loop and out the other side.

5.) Tighten and your strung and ready!

Lesson #4: How to Sew a “re-Line”
1.) From where the needle is coming out of the fabric, name it as Origin, poke about 1 unit distance behind it.

2.) Push the needle out from the inside about 2 unit distances infront of the Origin.

3.) Now pull the needle through

4.) Pull it all the way through, tighten, and repeat!

Outside of pants:

Goals accomplished:
– Spent time with Mom
– Spent time with Grandma
– Learned how to Sew
– Realized how very damn hard it can be to poke a needle through a doubled layered sewed-up corner of a pocket really is! I had to push the needle through using the table!

Was good bonding time with my grandma especially =) She’s old and I have her some memories ^__^ Not bad for a guy! 😀

Music returns! ^__^ Idealogies broken!

November 26, 2006

It’s been a quite some time now. I’ve always been in a lot of pain whenever I listened to music. But recently, and finally, I’ve been kicked in the head and I think I’m better for it now.

Founds some interesting music and some sounds I really enjoy! It’s really quite different now than it was before. I believe there is much more of an realization in “how” to enjoy music.

I suppose there has always been a very an exhaustive need for me to find a bit of closure on some things, but after holding it back for so long it just kind of all came out at once. Too much compression will do that to ya I suppose! Well for the most part, I’ve let it out now and even after the harsh feelings, I’m better for it all.

The best way to explain this may be that I have had an idealistic barrier around my life which kept me safe and secure. I liked the warmth of the water there and feared stepping into the out side in fear of losing my idealistic ways. But as pressure built and built and built, I crawlled up, did my best to hold my place, I fought back, supported my collaposing bubble. In the end, when the pressure was too much, it just went pop! Now I just don’t care as much. It is important of course to say that it is not the case that I have no more ideals. Of course I still retain my ‘self’ it’s just an additional acceptence that my bubble is leaking, and it’s really not all that bad.

Feel free, a lot less confined, of course there are restrictions, but now my borders are further and I have so much to explore =)

Rebuilt an 3ds Max ASE Exporter

November 4, 2006

So like, due to the way I built my game engine it require independant MPF files. Which are converted from ASE files. Problem was that the ASE exportor can only export one file at a time. Thus there was quite a lot of manual work!

So I finally decided to play with the 3ds MAX SDK. Played with the sample exporter and actually compiled it! Next step was modifying it to exactly what I wanted.

Sadly I went in there and hacked the crap out of it and made the code extremely dirty, but for the most part it accomplishes what I need it to do. It will be much more interesting from now on!

I can’t wait! I want to get this project even further down the line!

Building something yourself with our own two hands really makes a difference. You also begin to grow a might fine apprecation for all the people that have been there and done it before me.

I wonder how far behind the race I truly am. I hope to reach the top!
